New claim data highlights top-performing brands in leak prevention, wash reliability, and summer cooling demand.

The statistics reveal that claims on central cooling systems skyrocket by 17.7x between January (the bottom point of the year) and June (the peak point), making air conditioners the most seasonally sensitive appliance in the home. Heat stress also creates specific spikes among other comfort and kitchen appliances:
– Ceiling Fans (+29%): Sudden heat will generate a 29% rise in “discovery peaks” when people activate ceiling fans that have not been turned on since September.
– Ice Makers (+11.6%), Refrigerators (+5.5%): The hot summer months put the kitchen refrigerators under thermal pressure, making June the month with the highest claims for refrigerator repairs (1.6 times more than December).
Spotlight on Leading Appliance Reliability
Along with seasonal patterns, Select Home Warranty examined actual field service records to determine which brands and appliance designs exhibit exemplary reliability in critical areas of failure:
– GE Refrigerator Reliability: In kitchen refrigerators, GE refrigerators have outstanding ice maker reliability, with only 14.6 calls per 100 refrigerator claims related to ice makers—nearly a third of the call rate experienced by other brands in the file. (Sub-Zero was the leader in specialty units with a low 4.3% ice maker claim rate).
– Best Dishwasher Brands for Leaks & Wash Performance: Bosch is the leader in the file for lowest leak rates, with leaks occurring in only 9.5% of dishwasher calls—significantly lower than the 15.0% category average and saving homeowners from expensive water damage. On the other hand, LG offers the best wash performance, achieving a “not cleaning” complaint rate of only 11.6%.
– LG Clothes Dryers Have Outstanding Start-Up Reliability: LG clothes dryers outperform other brands in terms of start-up reliability, with only 7.3% of dryer claims resulting in “will not start” problems. (The industry average falls between 12.3% and 17.8%).
