LONDON, UK / ACCESS Newswire / August 20, 2026 / The Commonwealth of Dominica is set to build the world’s tallest and largest parrot statue, which will be installed at the top station of the cable car. The statue will be a monumental brass replica of the Sisserou Parrot, the country’s national bird.
The 23-foot-tall statue of the nation’s endemic Sisserou Parrot will stand on a 7-foot-tall marble pedestal. The brass sculpture will weigh approximately 4,700 kilograms (10,300 pounds) and is designed to become the world’s tallest parrot statue. It will be a defining feature of the cable car’s top station.
The Sisserou Parrot is native to Dominica and is one of the country’s most important national symbols, featuring prominently on its national flag. Its monumental representation will give visitors a distinctive introduction to Dominica’s natural heritage as they reach the cable car’s top station.
Made from brass, the approximately 4.7-tonne parrot sculpture is designed to become a major visual attraction and a potential world-record landmark. It will combine Dominica’s national identity with the island’s growing tourism and infrastructure ambitions.
The proposed statue would stand at the summit of Dominica’s planned world’s longest monocable car, adding another distinctive attraction to the project. ABL Holdings, the company building the cable car, said that while several countries have created monumental bird sculptures, the Dominica project is being conceived as the first parrot statue of this scale. It will make the Sisserou Parrot a unique feature of the island’s emerging tourism landscape.
Why the Sisserou Parrot?
The Sisserou Parrot (Amazona imperialis) is native to the Commonwealth of Dominica and is one of the country’s most important national symbols. It also features prominently on the country’s national flag, one of the very few flags in the world to display the colour purple. By recreating the parrot at monumental scale, the statue gives visitors a distinctive introduction to Dominica’s natural heritage the moment they arrive at the cable car’s top station. It is a landmark that fuses national identity with the island’s growing tourism and infrastructure ambitions.
The top station will also feature a Golden Love Bird, conceived as a romantic landmark for couples visiting Dominica. The sculpture will be made with rings contributed by thousands of successful couples, creating a collective symbol of love, commitment and lasting relationships. For couples, walking beneath the Golden Love Bird is envisioned as a symbolic blessing for a long and lasting marriage, adding a cultural and emotional dimension to the visitor experience.
Together, the attractions will bring together Dominica’s natural heritage, tourism, engineering and symbolism at the summit of one of the island’s most ambitious infrastructure projects.
